Ever since we found out we were pregnant, my husband and I have been looking forward to putting together the nursery! Prior to my pregnancy, the nursery was just an extra storage room in our house. I dumped a lot of my blog equipment and PR gifts inside the cabinets. Meanwhile, my husband kept his extra techie items around the room.
I told myself that while I’m still in my second trimester, we would organize everything once and for all. We stored some items in the real storage room and started preparing the extra room for our baby. One of the first big purchases we recently made was the Bambina Portacrib. Read all about why we decided on this playpen crib!Choosing a Playpen Crib
Originally, because of the wooden theme of our home, I wanted to get a multi-purpose wooden crib. A crib that would turn into a co-sleeper, playpen, and eventually a toddler bed. I fell in love with Lily and Tucker’s Tyler 6-in-1 Convertible Crib. I was also eyeing Barnmobler’s Hansel Convertible Crib. But after doing my research and getting input from mom friends, most of them said that they never used their cribs! And I didn’t want to waste our money on something that our baby wasn’t going to use.
So I thought about it really hard. I knew I wanted to eventually turn our nursery into a Montessori-style kids’ room. I love the idea of having floor beds and a playmat surrounded by educational toys. And so, taking the advice of most moms, we went for a pack n’ play instead. Because eventually, we can move it around the house when our baby gets bigger.
Our plan was to always have two—one in the nursery (that we can move around) and one in our bedroom. For our bedroom, I was eyeing the Joie Kubbie Sleep. Fortunately, my best friend who gave birth last year and is no longer using it is willing to lend me hers!
The Bambina Portacrib
Since we didn’t have to worry about the co-sleeper we’d be using in our bedroom thanks to my best friend, all we needed was a versatile playpen crib in the nursery. That was when we discovered the Bambina Portacrib through my sister-in-law, who is expecting her first child as well! It serves as a co-sleeper, crib, playpen, and diaper changer. Plus points that it came in a sophisticated design that fit the wood and gray theme I was going for.
We were initially planning to make our big purchases for the nursery closer to my due date. But because the Bambina Portacrib tends to get sold out fast, we decided to buy it already while it was still in stock. It retails for P6,700 but we were able to buy it at a discounted price of P6,600.
So that’s our first big purchase for our baby: a playpen crib! I’ll try my best to document how we’ll be transforming the nursery in the coming months.
