Are you guys familiar with Calyxta? It’s an online magazine and shop about all things beauty, and I’ve been following them since they were launched last December 2014—because apart from being every woman’s source and resource for aspirational yet attainable beauty, what I love reading about the most are the Calyxta Girls—cover girls that they feature each month with an inspirational or interesting story to tell.
Derived from the Greek word Kallistō, meaning “she that is most beautiful,” Calyxta’s name perfectly represents the vision of the brand—one who passionately enhances beauty inside and out.
Last June 29, they collaborated with makeup maestro, Jigs Mayuga, and held an event at Early Night? to showcase and demonstrate the different beauty trends on the runways this Fall/Winter 2017. The looks included Ethereal (over-the-top strobing techniques), Reinvited Smokey Eye (an update on the classic smokey eye with the use of gray eye shadows and a hyper-pigmented eyeliner), Pop of Color (two-toned eye shadow to complement a neutral lip and subtle contour), Straight Brows (natural-looking brows with the use of feathery strokes), and Just Kissed Lips (imperfect lip application to look like you just made out).
It was so much fun, and I found myself so engrossed with the workshop of Jigs. There were a lot of questions asked while he was demonstrating, and I learned so many new tips and techniques from him as he answered them. What’s also cool is that he used a mix of reasonably-priced products—all of which are available on www.calyxta.com.
Aside from drugstore and mainstream brands, I think what sets Calyxta apart from other online shops is that they actually carry brands that are so difficult to find locally—like Milani, Glossier, Lime Crime, and Kat Von D.
