Last weekend was our first time back in Shangri-La Plaza since the pandemic started and since I became a mom. We had lunch in Cibo and went shopping for a bit to buy Cambria some clothes. I was so amazed that they conveniently had a Breastfeeding Room near where we ate in Cibo—on the 2nd floor of the main wing near Furniture Republic.
So I was able to nurse Cambria comfortably! It had everything from cozy chairs, a refrigerator, sinks, outlets, and a diaper changing area. The room was dark and cool. Moreover, it was spacious enough to fit our stroller. According to the guidelines, only two moms and two babies are allowed inside. This is to maintain social distancing, of course. But we were the only ones inside when we used it. It’s free, too! No need to pay an entrance fee unlike their premium bathrooms, which charge P10 per person as far as I remember.
It’s probably not much to most but for a mall to have this room was such a big deal for a momma like me. Especially since I’m currently struggling with my mental health, which I’ll probably save for another story.
Apparently, having a breastfeeding room in malls is becoming the norm!
I researched some more and found that most malls in Metro Manila have a breastfeeding room or lounge. But moms were quick to point out that the ones in Shangri-La Plaza are the best. One mom mentioned that they have three—one in the main wing where I went, one in the east wing, and another inside Rustan’s.
Anyway, I just wanted to say again how happy Shangri-La Plaza’s Breastfeeding Room made me. It was a similar feeling when Elin PH launched their second collection with Tricia Gosingtian called Forever. As a new mom still getting used to my role, I felt seen. So thank you, Shang! You are officially my favorite mall.
