It’s been mine and the Cupcake’s tradition to spend our Friday evenings trying different restaurants we haven’t been to, and having a taste of their wine selections, tapas, and cheese. Being used to the likes of Larry’s, CAV, Beso, and Galileo Enoteca—all of which are romantic dinner places that give off a quiet and dramatic ambiance, I was very intrigued when I first saw Planet Grapes after getting my nails done one time at I Do Nails in Tuscany, Mckinley.
And so we went on a Friday night, not knowing what to expect, but with the notion that they offered wine without the drama. This was truly exemplified in their state-of-the-art wine cases, modern-looking interiors, and straightforward menu.
If you’re looking to have a heavy dinner, I would suggest dining in restaurants beside Planet Grapes first, as their menu offers unusual dishes—street food made fancier, to be exact.
The place is ideal for having wine nights with a group of friends. You can easily order and share the street food dishes. Because the Cupcake and I are big fans of cheese, we just got the Cheese Platter. Though I enjoyed it, I was a little dismayed that it arrived almost twenty minutes after we ordered. This made me wonder why, seeing as cheese doesn’t take that long to prepare. However, in the end, we were still able to savor all cheeses and paired them with a glass of Stargroves Petite Sirah and a glass of Napa Cellars Zinfandel.
Aside from dining with friends, customers can also buy wines by the bottle—they have selections from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, North America, and South America.
Planet Grapes is located at Tuscany in McKinley Hill, Taguig. To know more about them, visit their website here.
