Ever since my husband and I moved into our forever home, which I often refer to as the #FraggyHome, hosting intimate gatherings with family and friends has been something I enjoy doing. This inspired me to start dressing up our dining table. I turned to Pinterest and got some tablescape ideas. My interest was further fueled when I read an article on Modern Parenting about beautiful tablescapes.
So from there, I edited and curated based on the theme of our home as well as the storage space I have. So if you’re also inspired to prettify your tables, here are some tips!Tablescape Tips if You Have Limited Space
1. Work with what you have
A lot of the table setting designs I’ve seen make use of a variety of plates, glassware, and cutlery. I can only imagine the space that these take up in the kitchen cupboards and cabinets! So far, I like the designs of our current dinnerware, which consists of Corelle sets in the Lia design and Oneida silverware. Therefore, I’m happy to stick with these and just work with what I already have.
2. Play up the colors of your linen
Since I have more than enough space for table napkins and runners, I invested in these instead. Using the design of my Corelle dinnerware, which has minimal strokes of dark blue, I ordered table napkins in shades that would complement it. So far, I have light blue and beige. Moreover, I’m looking to get gray since this is another neutral color that’s easy to work with.
I bought the table napkins from a store called A&L General Merchandise on Shopee. They have a lot of color options! Aside from table napkins, they sell table cloths, curtains, and pillowcases.
3. Learn how to do different napkin folds
Doing different napkin folds can change up the look of your tablescape, too. There are many tutorials on YouTube that are so easy to follow. If you’re into cute napkin rings like me, you can invest in some of these. Napkin rings are much smaller and easier to store than plates, glassware, and cutlery—that’s for sure! I bought my floral napkin rings from Fab Home PH.
4. Use existing items in your home
In relation to the first tip, you can be resourceful and utilize existing items in your home. In my case, since I have clear glass vases with faux flowers around the house, I simply use any of these as my centerpiece. I even plan to use our whiskey glasses as makeshift tea light candle holders the next time I put together another tablescape. That, combined with the small succulents I have. If you have battery-operated Christmas lights, you can place these inside a cylinder jar. Or if you have a wooden cheese board, this can add accents as well. There are so many ways to get creative!
5. Less is more for my tablescape designs
As a fan of timeless and minimalist designs, I stick to the rule that less is more. I don’t need to have the most elaborate or extravagant flowers to deck the whole table. At one point, I considered buying gold candlestick holders just to add to my tablescape designs. But I realized later on that it didn’t seem practical, and that I could be resourceful instead—hence using the existing whiskey glasses and round cylinder vases I have for tea light and pillar candles.
