Ways to Protect the Environment: Garnier Launches #OneGreenStep

I remember around this time last year, I attended an online event by Garnier. The event highlighted their commitment to green beauty as one of their ways to protect the environment. As an action step, they started using paper instead of plastic and bubble wrap whenever they shipped out online orders.

This year, Garnier partnered with Lazada and Cora to help Filipinos take One Green Step for the planet. This is to advance the brand’s commitment to its sustainability ambitions and continue its strides towards Green Beauty for All. One Green Step is a movement that aims to inspire and enable Filipinos to start their sustainability journey.

Ways to Protect the Environment with Garnier

According to Garnier, many Filipinos hope to live sustainably but find it intimidating, difficult, and even expensive. With One Green Step, the brand hopes to break this barrier and make it easy and accessible for everyone to take their first green step. It kicks off the campaign with two big partnerships!

Reducing E-Commerce Packaging Waste Through Garnier’s Green Parcel

Together with Lazada, Filipinos will now be able to receive all their Garnier orders in plastic-free packaging. Each purchase from the official Garnier LazMall flagship store is packed using eco-friendly sources and materials. Instead of the usual plastic tape, it uses water-infused kraft paper tape to secure and protect products. Meanwhile, in place of bubble wrap, it uses recycled paper wrap that disintegrates in water within 30 seconds. The items are then packed in a box that doesn’t contain hazardous toxic chemicals.

Garnier Philippines is actually the first beauty brand to roll out the Green Parcel program for e-commerce. Since then, they’ve saved over 1,240 kilograms of plastic! They continue to work with various organizations and suppliers to look for more sustainable packaging materials. Materials that are either renewable or recyclable.

Offsetting Carbon Footprint Through Mangrove Rehabilitation Program

CORA and Garnier recently announced a partnership to support the mangrove plantation project called WoMangrove Warriors. This promises that for every Garnier All-Star Kit purchase, one seedling will be donated to the women eco-warriors community who maintain and protect the mangrove ecosystem in Baybay, Leyte. The progress can be tracked through Garnier’s information page on the partnership on their website.

Simple Ways to Protect the Environment

Seeing a big brand like Garnier making all these efforts is truly inspiring for me. I really hope that more and more brands follow suit! After all, they have the power, resources, and influence to do so. Personally, it’s not always easy to live sustainably. But I know that little action steps can already help the environment.

One way I try to live sustainably is by reusing bubble wrap from e-commerce sites as a bag filler. Another is by purchasing shampoo, conditioner, multi-purpose cleaner, etc. in their biggest sizes. And instead of buying a new bottle every time, I just buy refills! I segregate my trash properly as well since our village practices strict segregation. Lastly, as much as possible, I lessen the use of our water heater and air conditioner. It’s a sacrifice that I know is helping the environment in a small way.

These are just some ways to protect the environment that Garnier is hoping can inspire and enable more Filipinos.
