Top 5 Tips for Designing a Beach-Style Home in the City Center

Nearly everyone in the country, and even the world, loves nothing more than relaxing in the warm sunshine with a cocktail in hand and lying on the beach with their partner, close friends, or family members. Unfortunately, unless you are incredibly fortunate, you probably do not reside in a beach hut on the white sands of Thailand, but you can still bring a touch of the beachfront exotic to your own home.

Here are the top five tips for designing a beach-style home in the city center.

1. Paint the Walls White

As a base for your new beachy theme, even though some people falsely believe that plain white walls are only reserved for modern properties, painting the walls in a bright, fresh, and clean white will serve as a beautifully simple backdrop.

From this white base, you can then look to add natural elements and neutral colors, both components coming together to make the décor ‘pop’.

2. Invest in Beautiful Artwork

How you decorate your new beach-themed home is, of course, entirely up to your own interpretation of what the ocean and surrounding areas mean to you, but if you aim to create a sensory experience with the wall art, you will bring your vision to life.

Try and move away from the normal oil paintings you would see in such a beach-themed décor style and instead get creative by looking into an established needlepoint store and even spending the morning touring thrift shops.

3. Add Depth with Texture

Now that you have a clean wall aesthetic and neutral-colored cushions, throws, and blankets against a brown corner sofa or a set of chairs, it is time to add depth and texture to the space.

Far from a beach style being an unusual choice for your home, there is actually a whole design framework interior designers call ‘New England coastal style’ that balances the rustic feel of a beach hut by the ocean and the sophistication of a seaside retreat.

4. Add Splashes of Yellow and Blue

If you conjure an image of a beach house aesthetic, you will automatically imagine a parade of different shades and hues of blue with a mixture of pale yellow and brighter touches.

Pale yellows are relaxing and warming to the eye, so look for beach-themed décor that brings this vibe, along with upcycled floating shelves painted in a beach-worn light blue.

5. Stick to an Informal Ambience

The fifth and final thing to bear in mind is that, in choosing an ocean feel, you are automatically inviting a relaxed and informal atmosphere which will not only help you to relax at home but will also be a warm and welcoming experience for your friends and family too.

Make sure the seating areas are cozy and the couches are not too structured or rigid, that there is as much natural light in each room as possible, and that you never worry too much about being clutter-free.

In conclusion, designing a beach-style home nestled within the urban landscape seamlessly marries the tranquility of coastal living with the vibrant energy of the city. Every architectural element and decor choice has been thoughtfully curated to evoke the soothing embrace of the seaside, allowing you to escape the urban bustle and find solace in your own private coastal retreat.
