Promoting the Best of Taiwan: Taiwan Excellence

The government of Taiwan recently launched a campaign called Taiwan Excellence in the Philippines, with an aim to raise Taiwan’s international competitiveness by supporting its local brands. Given how globalization has expanded people’s choices when it comes to shopping, we now have access to more goods and services from various countries.

Sometimes however, you’re not always  assured of the quality of certain brands. This is why through the Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan and Taiwan External Trade Development Council, a campaign was organized and implemented to help Filipinos identify the best from the rest.

Taiwan Excellence recognizes top Taiwanese brands, assuring their superior quality and value. To qualify for these awards, the products go through a rigorous screening process to make sure they are of the highest standard and can proudly represent the unique and innovative culture of their country.

The campaign started back in 1992, as part of the Ministry of Economic Affair’s 5-year plan in the 1980’s to further elevate Taiwan’s competitiveness in the international field by supporting its local brands. The prestigious title of “Taiwan Excellence” is awarded to products based on its research and development, design, quality, and marketing efforts. If chosen, the brands and products are allowed to use the Taiwan Excellence Seal locally and internationally.

All of Taiwan-based brands are eligible to be part of the campaign. Some categories include consumer and business IT, fashion, arts and culture, sports, education, and transportation. Each product is scored based on the research and development, design, quality, and marketing efforts by an international panel of judges. These products must score evenly in all four requirements. After meticulous deliberation, those selected are allowed to carry the Taiwan Excellence Seal.

From these selected products, the judges then choose those who deserve the Silver and Gold awards. Of the original winners, they will select 30, and only 10 are given the Gold Award—this is the highest recognition under the campaign. The remaining finalists are given the Silver Award.

Just this year, the Taiwan Excellence campaign was introduced to the Philippines for the first time—to inform and benefit Filipino consumers who purchase products from Taiwan. The campaign carries out the theme “Excellent Lifestyle” not just to showcase the 56 excellent brands under Taiwan Excellence, but also to let Filipinos recognize how these products will guarantee them an excellent lifestyle.

Some of the brands under the campaign include Acer, ASUS, HTC, Tatung, BenQ, Draytek, HCG, KingCom, KW Trio, Kymco, MSI, Silicon Power, Sym, and Transcend. I myself am a fan of ASUS, especially when they came out with the new Zenfones this year. For ten years, I used the same Acer laptop, which proves the quality of the brand. I also have a Transcend USB that I’ve been using for a while now, and am impressed with its durability.

The campaign has definitely helped Filipinos distinguish the best of Taiwanese products, encouraging them to make smart choices when it comes to spending their money. Furthermore, these innovative products have helped simplify everyday tasks, whether for work or at home. Thanks to this campaign, Filipinos can enjoy their shopping experience and discover the best that Taiwan has to offer!
