If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my mother, it’s that taking good care of your skin is just as important as taking care of your health. This is why I got used to visiting my dermatologist regularly and getting a facial treatment once a month. I really do believe that investing in your skin as early as possible will benefit you in the long run.
Of all the trending skincare treatments being offered by various centers, I’ve actually only tried two: OxyOasis (which infuses my face with oxygen and gives back life to my skin; this is great if you just had a bad breakout) and Diamond Peel.
Recently, I was invited by Envie—a skincare center in Quezon City, to visit them. Envie just opened their clinic last April 2014, and is located in a studio unit along Timog Avenue. They introduced me to DermaLift, which is supposedly a skin tightening procedure.
At first, I really hesitated because of the word “lift.” It was the first time I’ve heard of this kind of treatment, and I wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to try. Fortunately, the receptionist tried her best to answer all of my questions:
Will it hurt?
No, you’ll just feel a little heat.
How long will it take?
About 30 minutes.
Is there anything I need to do after?
None. But just don’t wash your face for four hours.
For those of you wondering, I did more research and discovered that it is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure where the facial muscles and skin are given an electrical workout that encourages muscle tone and improves the production of collagen and elastin—two essential proteins needed for the skin to remain youthful and glowing.
The subtle radio frequencies also cause an increase in the amount of ATP or adenosine triphosphate—the chemical fuel of human cells. With increased levels of ATP, cellular metabolism speeds up, and creates a detoxifying effect that increases the rate of eliminating waste and skin impurities. (Source here.)
I was required to lie down on a metal plate to prevent any part of my body from getting lightly electrocuted by the radio frequency machine. After cleansing, a white cream was slathered on my face to stimulate the RF wand. It had two sizes—the bigger one was for the body, while the smaller one was used for the face.
The intensity of the heat really depends on your threshold for pain. Since it was my first time, they made sure it wasn’t too hot.
After the procedure, which took about 30 minutes, the white cream was just wiped off. I didn’t really see any difference, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I think it was my mistake to compare the aftereffect to that of a diamond peel’s, which leaves the skin soft and smooth right away.
If your objective is to restore your youthful glow and tighten the skin without having to go through surgery, DermaLift is the perfect treatment for you. At Envie, the rates are incredibly friendly that you can easily visit them twice or thrice a month. They also offer other services—both for men and women.
