Getting Back into the Game and Being #BetterForIt with Nike

Growing up an athlete, I was always used to the intensity of training and workouts. It was all I ever knew as a young girl, so it was only natural that as I got older, my body would constantly look for it. It was so much easier in grade school and high school, where training was consistent and scheduled right after class.

This was back when I was playing softball—a sport I played up until college. When Ultimate entered the picture in high school, this was another sport I dedicated so much time and effort to—simply because I wanted to be the best player I could be. Being the best meant practicing harder, and it was always easy to find time to do it.

Entering the workforce changed everything. By that time, I had given up softball and was playing just Ultimate twice or thrice a week. Once in a while, I would go climbing or enroll in yoga classes. I also ran about 5 kilometers on weekends. But as my workload got heavier and more important priorities were entering the picture, I found myself having less and less time for Ultimate. It was also around this time that my asthma came back and I was diagnosed with dextroscoliosis, so I thought that playing or working out might be too difficult for me.

2015 was the year I barely did anything. Aside from attending Barre 3 and Plana Forma classes a few times (because I was invited to write about them on the blog), I didn’t bother to do anything else. Enrolling in fashion makeup class and grad school all the more lessened my time to work out, and I found myself getting lax about it.

This 2016, I gave my body a huge surprise when I slowly started playing Ultimate again. Though not competitively, it’s still a work out I get once a week. I also enrolled in yoga classes once more, to help with my scoliosis and to de-stress from the craziness at work. It may sound cliché, but it honestly helps me physically, mentally, and emotionally. This is my way of getting back into the game and being #BetterForIt.

To those who experienced or are experiencing the same thing as me where I stopped working out because I got too busy, I realized that “not having time to work out” is a lame excuse, and you can always squeeze in even a quick 5-minute workout to your daily routine. I’d also like to invite you guys to check out Episodes 7 and 8 of Nike Women’s latest mini-series, “Margot vs. Lily” to help inspire you to get back in shape!

You guys should also check out the Nike + Run Club Women’s Half Marathon Manila happening on May 15, 2016. Full event details can be found here.

Lastly, I want to thank Clozette and Nike for partnering with me in this campaign—it’s just incredibly relevant and it encouraged me all the more to maintain a healthier lifestyle. If you guys are looking to read more fitness tips, do visit www.clozette.com/insider.
