Things Your Kids Need to Have in a Shared Bedroom

When you have a growing family or need to move into a smaller home, you may need to have two of your children move into the same bedroom. This can seem simple enough. But when it comes to merging spaces, it’s important that both children feel that their privacy is respected. Even if they are only five years old!

So, with this in mind, what are some of the key things that you need to invest in when two of your kids start staying in a shared bedroom? Read on to find out!

Bunk Beds

If the room is large enough, your kids may be able to have their own beds. But if the room is smaller, then you may need to invest in a bunk bed. To prevent arguments at the earliest stage, you may want to have a rotational system in place so each of the children gets to sleep on the top bunk! If you have three children sharing the space, you can even invest in a triple bunk bed, which can be bought at reinforcedbeds.co.uk. Just make sure that the bunk bed is sturdy and has passed all of its safety checks before you let your children sleep in it.

Storage

Most parents know that it can be a struggle to keep a child’s bedroom neat and tidy. Particularly if there are two children sharing the space. Therefore, you’ll need to make sure that there are adequate and easy storage solutions that can help you keep the bedroom tidy and organized. Try to ensure that each of the children has their own storage space with their clothing, toys, and other personal belongings. Based on the children’s ages, you may want to opt for plastic boxes, which can be easily opened. Or, if the kids are older, more private storage options. These include dressers, shelves, or boxes that have locks on them. The locks will save arguments in the long term, honestly!

Privacy Dividers

There may be a need to put in a privacy divider, which can be used to give each child a sense of their own space when needed. This can be crucial if there’s a significant age gap. Or if one of the children is an early or late sleeper so they don’t wake up or disrupt the sleeping patterns of the other child they’re sharing the room with. Privacy dividers can be easily folded down. And they will be useful for keeping arguments to a minimum (you may be spotting a theme here!).

Play and Study Areas

For play and study, you can invest in a desk, or pair of desks, and chairs, which can have school supplies in the drawers. This will help each of the kids to have the space that they need when they need to do homework. A play area can be a bit more relaxed and can be a rug on the floor. You can even get a rug that has printed roads on it. Or a forest scene for kids who love imaginative play.

Personalization

Finally, you’ll want to personalize as much as possible. This way, each child feels that they have something in the room that’s theirs. This can be posters, paintings on the walls, ornaments, or items like a telescope, a guitar stand, and so on.

A shared bedroom can bring your kids closer together!

A shared bedroom can be a great bonding experience for your kids. It can foster strong sibling connections and lasting memories as they grow up together!
