September has been quite the eventful month that I’ve only posted on the blog twice—and that’s to update my Travel Map after visiting Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and reviewing my Lash Lift by Plush Beauty by Inna Valera. I have yet to share my stories about Europe, but I’m going to need to put it on hold first because I recently went on another #GretasJunkyardAdventure—this time to Singapore!
To be honest, it all happened so fast. While I was still in Europe, Klook got in touch with me and invited me to fly to Singapore so that I could visit Singapore Science Center and Snow City. The last time I went to Singapore was in high school, and the only vivid memory I have of that trip was I got lost for two hours in Sentosa Island.
That experience remains to be very unforgettable for me. Haha! This time, I was given the opportunity to travel to the Lion City of Asia with just my siblings. It was actually a dream come true for all of us, because we have always wanted to visit another country together as just us siblings—to recreate what our mom did with her siblings back in the day when they went to Hong Kong together. I didn’t think it was going to happen this soon, considering my sister is still in school. So Klook definitely made this experience all the more memorable.
For those who aren’t familiar with Klook, they offer a simple way to discover activities, attractions, and things to do wherever you travel. You can book in-destination services at the best prices with just a few clicks or taps!
For example, as soon as we landed on Saturday morning, an airport transfer that we booked via Klook was already waiting for us at our arrival gate with a tablet that had my name written on it! Compared to booking a cab (since we were four, plus we each had our carry-on bags), the price was relatively affordable and it made getting to our hotel very fast and convenient. We didn’t have to worry about the meter, the ride was comfortable, and it’s definitely something I would recommend to big groups traveling together.
We stayed in The Keong Saik Hotel, which is situated in the heart of Chinatown.
The location made it very easy for us to book a Grab, walk around, or even commute via MRT. It was also near iconic places like the Chinatown Food Street, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, and Maxwell Food Centre, where you can find Tian Tian Haianese Chicken Rice (a stall highly commended by the late Anthony Bourdain). We enjoyed a very scrumptious lunch here, before heading to Singapore Science Center and Snow City (which were right beside each other) in Jurong. It took us about 20 minutes via Grab from Maxwell Food Centre.
Not kidding, but as soon as the four of us entered Singapore Science Centre first, it was like the kids in all of us were unleashed. We enjoyed every bit of the place, but my favorite areas would have to include the Mirror Maze, the Science of Fear, and the Butterflies Up-Close. My siblings and I were even saying that though the place was probably built with kids in mind, even adults like us can enjoy and learn so much from it! It makes for a perfect date for girls like me and my sister, who would definitely choose this over a romantic dinner. The package we booked was the Science Centre + Omni Theatre Movie + Butterflies Up-Close, which amounts to just PhP 608 (from PhP 835). You can easily book the tickets here. What’s also nice about booking with Klook is that the package is open-dated, so if you suddenly change your plans, you can easily re-book your tickets without any fees.
You can do the same thing with Snow City Singapore, which is only PhP 477 (from PhP 715). It was my first time to experience that kind of cold (below -19 degrees, I think?) and my nose, fingers, toes, and ears felt numb in minutes! Good thing you can rent a thermal jacket, boots, and gloves to keep you warm. It was so much fun tubing, and jokingly throwing ice at each other that we really felt like kids all over again.
We closed the day with a feast at Chinatown for dinner that was just a 10-minute leisure walk away from our hotel! The following day, we made the most out of it by visiting Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Merlion Park, St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Orchard Central along Orchard Road, and Lau Pa Sat!
So that was our quick but very significant trip to Singapore! To know more about Klook, visit their website here, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
