Hello, hello! Welcome to another article on Greta’s Junkyard. This is a blog I started in September 2013 that serves as a dump of my favorite things. These include mostly topics on lifestyle, travel, fashion, beauty, and more. If you’re a new reader, my name is Gretchen Gatan Fragada, and I’m a writer and editor based in Metro Manila.
I’m also the founder and editor-in-chief of The Metro Edit, your curated source of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle in and around the Metro. On top of having a fun and busy career, I’m a wife to Cayo, a fur mom to Booboo and Bellatrix, and a girl mom to a toddler daughter named Cambria. If you’re looking to read more about The Cabin Resorts in San Miguel, Bulacan, here are my honest thoughts about it!A Two-Hour Drive
We were invited to stay for three days and two nights. From our house in Quezon City, it was a two-hour drive to get to The Cabin Resorts in San Miguel, Bulacan. I was expecting a shorter drive, considering we left on a Tuesday morning and there was no traffic. But we arrived at around two in the afternoon, just in time for check-in. We stayed in a Loft Cabin, which can accommodate up to six people. The living and dining areas, and the bathroom, are all on the first floor. Additionally, there’s a lovely porch that overlooks the manmade pond, where you can watch or feed a lone duck. Meanwhile, there are three double beds in the loft area. It’s pretty spacious for a small family of three. For safety reasons, we just kept reminding Cambria that she couldn’t go up or down the stairs by herself.
The Cabin Resorts is pet-friendly, too! If Cayo and I had extra help with Cambria, we would have brought Booboo and Bellatrix with us.
When we settled in, the staff delivered scrumptious welcome treats to our cabin. We then spent the rest of the afternoon swimming in their Infinity Pool, which is right next to the Restobar, and even ordered merienda.
Bathroom Woes
Because I watched an honest review about The Cabin Resorts from my friend and Ateneo Creative Writing block mate, Belle Rodolfo, our expectations were set early on that this wasn’t a five-star resort. And it was evident in their rates and our cabin’s bathroom. It was a little small but I didn’t mind the size. What I had a hard time with was bathing my toddler daughter. The shower head was fixed and they didn’t have a heater, which was a bit of a struggle for her. Good thing we went during the summer season and temperatures were higher than usual. Also, there were drain flies everywhere and bugs kept entering from the awning window that we couldn’t close because it was stuck.
I think the bathroom was the biggest issue for me. Apart from this, the rest of our stay was fun and smooth.
Dining Options at The Cabin Resorts
If there’s anything worth commending, it’s the food at their Restobar despite it being a little expensive. You have the option of dining there or having food brought to your room. We chose to dine in the Restobar on our first night. The following morning, we ate in our cabin. Then for lunch, it was back in the Restobar. And on our last night and the morning after, we ate in our cabin again.
It was nice that we had the option to eat in our cabin since we were sometimes too lazy to walk to the Restobar, which is just a few meters away. It’s also worth mentioning that stray cats hang around by the Restobar. This wasn’t a problem at all for our family since we have a soft spot for cats. It might just be a concern for those who are scared of them or feel uncomfortable when they start begging for food.
Kid-Friendly Activities
For those with kids, there are a lot of activities that you can do in The Cabin Resorts. Cayo even brought his skateboard and was able to skate around the compound. Cambria got to experience riding the boat and fishing, too! We caught four tilapia fishes and paid around P300 to have them cooked for dinner during our second and last night.
Other free activities include biking, playing badminton, and archery, which we didn’t avail of anymore since Cambria was too young. You can rent an ATV as well, but we chose not to do this either.
After lunch on our second day, we took a long nap. It was a little hot despite the air-con but it was mostly because of the cabin design. We spent the rest of the afternoon of our last day swimming in the Sunset Pool.
Other Amenities
Our cabin had a small refrigerator where we were able to keep the milk and juice we brought. They provided us with towels and dental kits, too. WiFi was strong in our cabin and the Restobar. But if you’re out of range, our data worked just fine.
Some tips? Bring lots of insect repellent and sunblock! Depending on the time of year, Bulacan can be extremely hot. I highly recommend visiting on weekdays as well, since I heard that they’re always fully booked on weekends and it can get noisy depending on the crowd.
The Cabin Resorts: Perfect for Adventurous Families
If you’re not particular about plush bedding and luxurious amenities, then you’ll appreciate The Cabin Resorts and the activities they have to offer. In my opinion, it’s an upgraded glamping experience. I’m glad I got to go with Cayo and Cambria because it exposed our toddler to nature and things she doesn’t normally see at home.
