The Ultimate Breakfast Hack: Quaker Overnight Oats

If I haven’t stressed it enough, I absolutely love, love, love oatmeal! So much that when I was in Orlando for Wrestlemania 33 and was on a tight budget, I survived six days eating oatmeal for breakfast and/or brunch, then mac and cheese for dinner. In fact, oatmeal has become one of my staple breakfasts and ever since I left corporate and had more time for myself, mornings have become my me time where I cook or prepare something good and healthy like Quaker Whole Grain Rolled Oats with honey and milk. Sometimes, whenever we have fruits at home, I’d top my bowl with strawberries or bananas to give it that extra flavor.

Given my love for oatmeal, it was only natural to feel excited when I was invited to their event at Le Petit Souffle in Century City Mall, where they introduced a game-changing breakfast hack that’s so easy, anyone can do it.

It’s called the Overnight Oats, and to teach us a few recipes, the Quaker Overnight Breakfast Club, composed of Joyce Pring, Patti Grandidge, Lauren Young, and Wil Dasovich, demonstrated how they liked to do their Overnight Oats. I was so intrigued by their recipes, and was more than ecstatic when we were given the opportunity to create our own.

Overnight Oats is basically Quaker’s Whole Grain Rolled Oats that you place in a jar with a lid overnight—together with your choice of milk and other ingredients. Because it’s soaked in milk for hours, the oats get “cooked” and in the morning, is ready for consumption. There are a lot of different recipes that you can find here. The Overnight Oats I made during the event consisted of Quaker Whole Grain Rolled Oats soaked in almond milk, then topped with mixed berries, bananas, apples, chia seeds, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla syrup, and honey. As soon as I got home, I popped it inside the refrigerator then ate it for dinner.

It’s really that easy to make, so if you have a very busy lifestyle, there’s no more excuse to skip breakfast because you can just prepare it the night before, then grab your jar before heading out the next day. It also offers a lot of health benefits, because oats are rich in fiber, aid in digestion, lower blood pressure, and more.

Since the event, and after introducing the hack to my family (especially my mom, brother and sister), they’ve been preparing their own Overnight Oats every single night. We even have designated jars inside the refrigerator so we never have to confuse which one belongs to who. There’s also been an abundance of bananas, apples and strawberries at home, so that we can use them as ingredients.
