I’ve always been very vocal about my holistic approach towards skincare—that it isn’t just about the products you apply on your face, but also the kind of lifestyle you live—from visiting your dermatologist regularly, to drinking a lot of water, to eating the kind of food that’s good for the skin. And yes, that includes the supplements you take in order to achieve maximum results.
It was around three years ago when I was first introduced to the wonders and benefits of collagen supplements, and while most people who hear about it for the first time feel skeptical (believe me, I was one of those people as well), I’ve been grateful to the girl (aka Angel of Pinkoolaid) who opened my mind to it. For one, collagen supplements aren’t purely for skincare purposes. They also help improve the health of hair and nails. Collagen also helps add a natural glow to your entire look, which a lot of girls are after.
When I attended the launch of Shiseido The Collagen at Shangri-La Hotel Makati, I was genuinely excited to hear more about it because I was already one of a small percentage who has heard and has incorporated collagen supplements into her skincare routine. The event treated guests to an unlimited supply of sushi and sashimi, while waiting for the program to start.
Jaz Reyes hosted, and sat down with Dra. Anna Palabyab-Rufino, who discussed the truths and myths about collagen. It was a great reminder of what I had already known three years ago—one of which is that the components of collagen are too big to be absorbed by our pores, so the results of creams, gels or moisturizers that claim to contain collagen don’t end up as effective, compared to taking collagen supplements. Shiseido The Collagen also had a special guest and revealed Anne Curtis as their brand ambassador.
What I like about Shiseido The Collagen is that it comes in various formats that are easy to drink. You have the powder form, which you can mix in any drink (like your coffee in the morning!), the shot formula, which you can gulp down in one go, and the tablets. In the years since I’ve started taking collagen, I’ve tried all three forms but never really noticed which one was the most effective. For the longest time, I was drinking a powder formula until I found a brand that sold it in tablet forms. With Shiseido Collagen however, they already have three types, which is great if you’re looking for more variety. And you know that it’s a trusted brand, because Shiseido is widely recognized in Japan!
I’ve only started drinking the supplements, so I can’t really tell yet how effective they are compared to other brands. But I’ll let you guys know soon, and try to come up with a review to share my thoughts!
Have any of you tried collagen? Which supplement do you drink and why?
