I love the idea of coloring hair. It was always something I wanted to try, especially because growing up I watched my grandmother do it all the time. But being born with light brown hair already, my mom constantly tells me I’m lucky that it’s natural—so even though the idea of coloring my hair is something I’d like to try, for now I’m content with the hair color I have.
Last week, I received two boxes of Revia Hair Dye by Verona, which is available in 15 fashionable shades that are all wearable (it ranges from blondes, to reds, to browns). Their hair coloring cream is permanent, makes hair attractive, glossy, and durable, and it’s easy to apply. The colors I got were Hazelnut (No. 10) and Dark Brown (No. 13). I immediately gave my grandmother the Dark Brown, since I knew it was something she would wear.
Meanwhile, I was lucky that my brother’s modelesque, half-German girlfriend, Karina, volunteered to try the Hazulnut since she’s been meaning to dye her hair one shade lighter.
At first, I was a little nervous because I’ve never tried dyeing my own hair let alone anyone else’s hair. But Revia’s step-by-step instructions were short and easy to understand. Newbies like me will immediately get the hang of it.
We set up our hair coloring station outside in our garage just to make sure we didn’t stain anything inside the house. Karina wore one of my brother’s old, worn-out shirts to make sure we didn’t stain her clothes either. Revia’s Hair Dye already comes with plastic gloves, but I had to borrow a clip to hold Karina’s hair, my grandmother’s two-in-one sectioning comb and applicator, and a shower cap.
Since Karina had long, thick hair (something I wish I had!), I had to make sure my sections were thin so that the product really covered it. I started with the top, combing it like how Draco Malfoy would comb his hair in the first and second movie of Harry Potter, then I slowly made my way to the tips. When the bottle was nearly empty, I filled it with conditioner and used the remaining to even out the color. I also learned from a colleague that putting conditioner as your last application makes the hair softer and more lustrous.
Surprisingly, the smell wasn’t as strong (it smelled like shampoo actually) and Karina said it didn’t sting one bit, something that normally happens when you bleach or dye your hair.
Hazelnut looked really great on her mestiza features, and her hair now actually reminds me of The Little Mermaid!
