Choose to Live Active with the Philam Vitality Active Mobile App

It’s a sad reality that ever since I stopped playing both my sports competitively (softball and Ultimate Frisbee) due to time constraints and other priorities, my health plummeted to the point that I get sick almost every month (if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know this).

I lost most of my muscle and strength, it’s a never-ending cycle of getting rhinitis, the flu, asthma, and costochondritis, my core weakened (which resulted in frequent back pains because of my scoliosis), and in general, I just don’t feel as good and as healthy as I used to be.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has suffered from such a decline because according to last year’s Healthy Living Index, our country’s health situation remains at a crucial point as the study showed that while Filipinos have an awareness of various health risks, it’s their unhealthy habits and poor lifestyle choices that caused our rank to drop to the 9th spot among 15 Asia-Pacific countries.

It’s actually this pressing concern that led Philam Life to shift its focus to improving the quality of life of every Filipino through health and wellness efforts such as the Philam Vitality program, which seeks to help its customers make better decisions that contribute to their overall wellness, and rewards them along the way! To make living active easier and more accessible, they formally launched the Philam Vitality Active app, which was designed to reward its users for every personal health goal they achieve.

I downloaded it earlier this week, and was tasked to complete a short questionnaire to calculate my Philam Vitality Age, and I was genuinely alarmed because even though I just turned 28 yesterday, my Philam Vitality Age tells me I’m already 35! Immediately, I studied the app and discovered that I can sync it with other fitness apps. So I went to work and synced it with Strava (an app that tracks and analyzes my physical activities), which is also synced with MyFitnessPal (a calorie counter and diet plan app). This way, I’m challenging myself to not only exercise but to also watch what I eat (which I honestly think is harder).

The Philam Vitality Active app gives weekly challenges that users can accomplish by completing a certain number of steps as measured by any fitness device or free fitness app (like Strava) and for every challenge successfully completed for two consecutive events, users will receive exciting rewards like free passes to SM Cinema, SM Ice Skating, SM Bowling, Blink, and Exploreum.

Because it’s in my nature to be competitive, I’m really pushing myself to make smarter choices when it comes to what I eat, as well as to get back in shape by exercising even just at home. This is made even more fun because of the Philam Vitality Active app, which you can download either on the App Store Philippines or Google Play. There’s even an ongoing promo where if you download the app from March 1 to April 30, 2017, you can get a chance to win one of eight Garmin Vivofit 3 watches!

I’m so excited that I was able to start this fitness journey with the Philam Vitality Active app. Now that I’ve started, the real challenge is to be consistent and maintain the lifestyle.

What about you guys? Will you choose to live active and live better with the Philam Vitality Active Mobile App?
