Akrotiri PH: Eurasian Cuisine in Metro Manila

Alabang has always been one of those cities that, despite being there frequently, can still seem a little foreign to me. Back in grade school and high school when I was still an active softball player of the International Little League Association of Manila, and of the Poveda Varsity Team, I had games at the Alabang Country Club almost every weekend—and I used to compare the city to Canada, while Bonifacio Global City was California, and Makati was New York.

I guess it was my weird way of trying to place the city in my head, and finding things that reminded me of it.

Fast-forward to today, though I no longer play softball, Ultimate Frisbee has very much taken its place—and I’ve been playing the sport for nearly 13 years. Games are still held at the Alabang Country Club, and it’s become somewhat a tradition for my teammates and I to dine out after—so we usually end up in Alabang Town Center, Molito, West Gate, or Commerce Center. A few years ago, Commerce Center used to be a smaller building with limited restaurants, but slowly, the establishment grew and expanded its selection of stores and dining options. One of the most recent ones to launch is Akrotiri PH, one of the few modern Eurasian cuisines in Metro Manila.

The restaurant weaves together different flavors from various coastal food cultures, influenced by the owners and management themselves. From general manager, David Jones, who wanted to bring their knowledge to the Philippines and reflect Mediterranean classics, yet still localized to cater to the Filipino taste, to Chef Luca Maffei, an Italian chef who co-conceptualized Akrotiri’s menu, and with an intricate taste that brings together flavors of Asia and Euro-Greek cultures.

A couple of weeks ago, in time for the National Ultimate Collegiate Championships (where the Cupcake, Baby Cheng, and I played for the Ateneo Alumni Team), the Cupcake and I joined Akrotiri’s VIP Night and got a taste of several best-sellers. There were so many delicious dishes served buffet style that evening, that I got overwhelmed because I wanted to try everything!

But what stood out for me were the Chicken Satay Skewer, Sisig Tacos, Hokkaido Smoked Salmon Sandwich, and Wagyu Skirt Steak. I’ve been telling the Cupcake that we should definitely go back to have a dinner date, so I can pace myself and try the rest of their menu.

Akrotiri Modern Eurasian Cuisine is open everyday from 11am to 11pm. You can visit them at Unit 103 G/F Commerce Center Alabang, Commerce Avenue corner Filinvest Avenue, Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City, check out their website here, or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @akrotiriph.
