Delightful Delicacies from Something Different Bakeshop

Christmas is right around the corner, and one of the most convenient gifts I like to give colleagues and friends is pastries or delightful delicacies—especially from Something Different Bakeshop, a local business run by a tight-knit family.

Established in 1984, Something Different is the home of the infamous Baked Chicken Empanada—a recipe that was passed down from one generation to the next.

Unlike other empanadas I’ve tasted, theirs is rich in flavor and the aroma alone (especially after heating in the microwave) is enough to tickle my tummy. I like the soft texture as well, making every bite worth savoring.

Apart from empanadas, they’ve got a ton of other bestsellers and specialties like their Palmiers, Mango Tartlets, Sansrival Cookies, Chocolate Chip Cookies (a personal favorite), and Lenguas.

Though the bakeshop has been around since the 1980’s, the tandem behind Something Different, husband and wife, Randy and Myla, continue to innovate new products because they understand the changing market and how consumers are always looking for something new and exciting. Two of the more recent recipes I’ve tried (and can’t get enough of) is their Black Magic Cake and Pandan Cake.

Another thing that makes Something Different truly unique is their packaging—tightly sealed with a machine to ensure longer shelf life—making it the perfect Christmas gift (or any gift in general). This also makes it easy to send local products to friends and relatives abroad.

Something Different Bakeshop can be found in the following weekend bazaars:

  • Greenhills Wet Market – 6am to 10am
