Back to the Daily Grind: An Unexpected Job Offer

Sometimes, the universe really likes throwing the biggest curveballs. Like an unexpected job offer.

The Backstory

A few months ago, I purposely left corporate to focus on my own projects, which included writing more, helping run my mom’s business, and launching Greta’s Junk Shop. It took a while to get things moving, because I didn’t want to pressure myself too much.

It was only towards the end of August that I pushed the pedal on Greta’s Junk Shop to launch it in time for my blog’s 7th anniversary.

But around that same time, I received the most career-defining opportunity. It was a job offer that I initially turned down, because I really had no plans of going back to work—but reemerged (right before I launched my shop) with a once-in-a-lifetime proposal that I knew I’d regret if I let it pass.

Back to the Daily Grind + My Side Projects

And so as crazy and surreal as it sounds (especially after I thought I was done with corporate), I’m back to the daily grind—but this time with a global tech-oriented brand publisher. Lucky to be working from home while I report to my bosses in Jakarta (but will have to slightly adjust my time zone).

What does this mean for my blog, shop, and mom’s business? Not much, really! I still get to run those projects on the side, with the help of the Cupcake and my family. I might just write a lot less for the blog again, which I hope you’ll understand. But I’m very active on Instagram, and do a lot of micro-blogging there—so be sure to follow me @gretchengatan!

I guess that’s it for this quick update. Looking forward to learning and growing even more with this new role. It’s my first time to have foreign bosses and colleagues—so I can’t wait to experience this kind of work culture!
